Surround sound reciever.?

Is your surround sound source built-in with your bluray/dvd player? If it does, is there some kind of an error message that appears on the front panel when you switch it on? I had a same problem as before with my sony HT set. I cleaned the cable ribbon and the receiver's contacts with electronic spray and it worked otherwise there is some kind of a short that automatically shuts down the receiver for protection. Shop's job!
